This is a video demonstrating the power of the M1 Pro and how it can emulate retro game systems and even newer systems including GameCube, Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP. Whilst I would never recommend that somebody buy one of the new M1 Pros specifically for emulation, there is decent software support and the performance is really good especially for GameCube and Wii games via Dolphin’s ARM build.
This video is recorded on the base model MacBook Pro 14″ with 8 CPU cores and 14 GPU cores.
Had a couple of snafus with recording as the screen recorder conked out when recording PCSX2, Duckstation and Xemu. Also forgot to set my iPhone camera to record 60 FPS so we are stuck with 30 FPS footage for all the 'real world’ b-roll, however hopefully this conveys that many of these games can be run at 60 FPS.
