I’ve gone HANDS-ON with the new iPhone 18 Pro Max Specs to compare it directly against the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and there are some seriously interesting upgrades this year.
The biggest change inside is Apple’s new **A20 Pro**, manufactured using cutting-edge **2nm technology**. It features a new 6-core CPU, **7-core GPU**, 50% more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro and a new Dual 16-core Neural Engine delivering DOUBLE the AI processing power.
Apple has also completely redesigned the cooling system. The new vapor chamber has THREE TIMES the surface area of the previous generation, helping the iPhone 18 Pro Max deliver up to **40% higher sustained performance**.
Then there’s the CAMERA!! The new **48MP Fusion Main camera finally has VARIABLE APERTURE**, physically switching between different apertures to give you greater control over light, low-light photography and depth of field. You still get 48MP cameras across the entire rear system, with up to 8x optical-quality zoom.
BATTERY LIFE has taken another HUGE jump too. Apple now rates the iPhone 18 Pro Max for up to **45 HOURS of video playback**, which is six hours MORE than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. There’s faster charging too, with just five minutes of wired charging providing around seven hours of video playback.
You also get Apple’s new **C2 modem**, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a redesigned smaller Dynamic Island, new Siri AI capabilities and four colours including the brand-new **Burgundy and Glacier** finishes.
But visually, this is still VERY familiar to anyone using an iPhone 17 Pro Max.
And then there’s the **PRICE**. The iPhone 18 Pro Max now starts at **$1,299**, which is $100 MORE than last year’s model.
So after actually getting my hands on BOTH phones, does the iPhone 18 Pro Max offer enough to justify upgrading from an iPhone 17 Pro Max?
