Apple Pencil for Foldable iPhone Ultra Tested 🔥
Apple’s foldable iPhone is about a week from its September 9th debut — and it almost shipped with an accessory you’ll never get to buy.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Apple actually prototyped and tested a stubbier, magnetic Apple Pencil for the iPhone Ultra. Then it got killed: stuck to the side, it made the phone awkward to even hold, and the tip risked leaving marks on Apple’s most fragile screen yet.
None of this is confirmed by Apple — it’s one report, repeated everywhere, verified nowhere else. But Gurman’s own read is bigger than the accessory: Apple doesn’t want to contradict Steve Jobs, who said back in 2007 that nobody wants a stylus.
Translate that, and it’s not really about the pencil — it’s Apple admitting its first folding screen might not survive a sharp tip touching it. We’ll know everything else September 9th.
